"There was nothing to lose and a lot to win."

Formbricks is an open-source experience management platform: understand customer experiences and improve them. Because it is open source and self-hosted, it serves regulated industries with the highest compliance requirements — government, healthcare, financial services — organizations that cannot afford their data to sit with a third-party provider. Johannes tells the story.

Where the infrastructure and the budget already are

Open-source products are self-hosted: customers need servers, databases and infrastructure to deploy Formbricks — and many of them are large organizations already on AWS. The Marketplace adds a second advantage: procurement gets radically faster. Budget is usually already allocated, and the standard EULA removes the whole legal review cycle.

"It was a no-brainer for us to give it a go"

The AWS account executive introduced Formbricks to AWSsome. Initial skepticism — AWS had promised a lot before — disappeared when the model became clear: the money spent on AWSsome comes back as AWS credits.

The listing itself surprised everyone around the company.

In the words of Johannes from Formbricks:

"I have founder friends and GTM consultants with AWS experience — everyone was surprised how quickly we could get started. It normally takes months; for us it took about 3 weeks."

First major deal closed via the Marketplace

Two to three months after listing, Formbricks closed its first big deal through AWS Marketplace. After agreeing on commercials, the whole contracting wrapped in two weeks — no redlining cycles, no lawyer fees, which Johannes calls rare. A responsive point of contact, answering on Slack within minutes, handled every question about the ins and outs of AWS along the way.

Impact Highlights:

  • Listed in 3 weeks, against the months founders usually report
  • First major deal closed via AWS Marketplace, contracting wrapped in 2 weeks
  • Founder hours significantly reduced on the listing process
  • AWSsome cost effectively offset by AWS credits (~$3.5K spend vs ~$5K/month AWS bill)

Two more six-figure deals, then co-sell

The plan: close two more six-figure deals via the Marketplace, then build the track record for a fruitful co-selling relationship with AWS. In Johannes’s honest words: promising so far — the partnership label comes when the numbers do.
